Featured Items for Sobi Pro
So you've installed SobiPro on your system and now looking to see how you can enhance displaying the items from SobiPro. Needless to say, one of the first functionalities you would want to have is to set up Featured Items. If you've been wondering whether you can set up items as Featured Items in SobiPro and whehter there is a way to display them, then you've come to the right place. This article describes how one can easily configure SobiPro and Custom List 4 Sobi Pro, a module that allows you to list Sobi Pro entries based on any criteria to set up and display Featured Items in SobiPro in two basic steps.
Step 1:Firstly let's configure the SobiPro directory to identify Featured Items from normal items. This is done by defining a field to denote whether a particular entry is a featured item or not. Go to the Section you want to configure and add a new field "Featured Items". Let's set the field properties as follows:
- Field Name: field_featured_items
- Field Alias: Featured Item
- Field Type: Select List
- Set up the options:
- opt value: featured_yes, opt name: Yes
- opt value: featured_no, opt name: No
After configuring the SobiPro section as above, every item in the particular category will have a new field, Featured Item which you can set to either Yes or No. Next we will configure Custom List 4 SobiPro to display the items which are set up as Featured Items.
Step 2:
Install Custom List 4 SobiPro like any other module and assign it with a module position. Now let's start configuring the module.
- Set Section or Category you want to display the items from and set the number of Featured Items you want to show. If you set the number to zero or a negative value, you can display all the Featured Items.
- Select the fields you want to display as the Title, Image and the Description. Note that for an image, you can choose to display an image in its icon, thumbnail or full image view.
- Now, let's set up the rule. All you need to do is to insert the text IS_EQUAL_TO([field_featured_items],"featured_yes") in the Rule text area.
Well that's it. Now you are good to go with the new Featured Items module for SobiPro. Of course, this is not the only thing you can do with the module. You can also decide whether you want to display the featured items alphabetically or in the chronological order (or actually based on any field you want). You can select the module to display items either as a static list or as a slideshow module as well.
